Question One
PHI 292
Instructions: Answer both of the following questions. Email your answers as one document in either word or pdf format.
- According to Hill, what is servility? Discuss in detail the three types of servility examined in Hill’s paper. What is the difference between love and servility?
- Discuss LaFollette’s argument for licensing of parents. What is prior restraint? Discuss why LaFollette believes that his account of licensing of parents is not in tension with our belief in the wrongness of prior restraint.
Question Two
Your task is to use the policy literature from the POLI1052 Course Modules and the wider policy literature and documents relevant to your policy case study (i.e.: that you have researched from those available in the RMIT library or other reputable and academic sources), to provide a 2,500 word analysis of the policy making ideas which best explain the development of your policy case study (i.e.: ideas concerning politics, interests and influences; policy models (rational, interpretative or critical approaches); agenda setting and the media; discourses, framing and representations; evidence and research; policy process etc.).
The purpose of the policy analysis paper is to combine the knowledge and insights from your case study with the POLI1052 policy theory and reading in order to answer the question, what does your case study policy episode tell us about how public policy is made?
This does not mean evaluating how effective the policy is, or making recommendations about how to change this policy. Rather, you are required to use the policy theory and literature to explain how and why this policy development process came about, and what lessons your case study offers for your understanding of policy making. Really what you are trying to do is to reflect, theorize and explain policy making and policy change.
Your case study can be the same as you reviewed in your presentation for assignment 2 or a different case study from the list of assignment 2 case studies (available in Modules on Canvas for this course).
If you choose to use the same case study as you did for assignment 2, you are expected to go into further depth about this case study for assignment 3. You are also expected to provide different information and analysis. I.e.: you should not simply copy what you did in assignment 2 with a bit extra. You are expected to provide a more in-depth, critically aware understanding of the case study for this final assignment.
If you want to do a case study that is not listed on the case studies provided for assignment 2, then you will need to run this by your tutor for approval to proceed.
Question Three
Using GALILEO, find a scholarly, peer-reviewed psychology article discussing experimental
or quasi-experimental research l-ink or GALILEO
to Make sure that you choose Advanced Search to Limit your search to
Full text - Online and Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals
” Make sure that the article you choose is experimental or quasi experimental research; otherwise, you will not be able to correctly
complete this assignment and will lose points.
. Read and summarize the research, making sure that you adhere to the following:
” APA Style, including correctly formatted in-text citations and a
reference list to identify the hypothesis
” Identify & the variables FV/DV)
to Identify whether the hypothesis was proven or disproven
” Identify & the shortcomings of the research
o Use the provided Journal Article Summary template (attached to the
assignment drop box (DB) below)
Question Four
PLEASE USE THE ATTACHED APA TEMPLATE TO DO THIS.
In preparation for this assignment watch the video “A Class Divided” located at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/film/class-divided/ (Links to an external site.).
Prepare a 750-1,000-word paper in which you address the following:
- What stage of Piaget’s development are the children in this video in? Give some evidence (other than the children’s age) to support that children are functioning in this stage. Is this a good way to teach children in this age group? Why or why not?
- How do you see self-fulfilling prophecy and learned helplessness portrayed in this video?
- How was the self-esteem of the children effected by participating in this study? Why do you think the children’s test scores rose after participating in this experiment?
- Give an example of how operant conditioning, classical conditioning and social observational learning were shown in this video. Be specific in your discussion. For the discussion of classical conditioning, please write out the process.
- How can you use Piaget’s theory and Kohlberg’s theory to explain the different reactions of the adults and children during this study?
- Which theory (theories) of personality can help us understand the behavior of the students in this video? Support your answer with a strong discussion of that theory.
Note: Your paper should follow APA format and include a title page and a reference page.

Theorist include:
Sigmund Freud, Anna Freud, Karen Horney, Carl Jung [bold one is which ones I want to pick]
2. Focus on the Slender Man case, but you may wish to branch out and consider other comparable occurrences.
3. Make an argument for why the events in the Slender Man case have occurred. Collapse of societal norms? Children not being supervised? Mental illness in society? Insecure attachment styles? Violence in the media? Study hard and be bold in finding your argument!
Word limit: 2700 words minimum (inclusive of referencing)

Presentation requirements: Double spaced word document. Images may be included in submissions as long as they are embedded in the word document.
Estimated return date: June 5
Referencing requirements: Please use the Harvard referencing system.
To build your skills in citing and referencing, and using different referencing styles, see the online tutorial Academic Integrity: Demystifying Citing and Referencing at http://www.lib.monash.edu/tutorials/citing/
Additional information: 2700 words is the minimum - students expecting to do well should not have less than 2700 words
A minimum of 10 sources should be used to prepare this assignment. Students with Distinction grades or better will likely use 12+
Question Six
Students must complete one 1500-word major essay on one of the following topics (due 4pm Monday May 25, 2020). The major essay will be the focus of the activities in the Week 8 COG tutorial. _____________________________________________________________________________________ TOPICS 1. What effects does bipolar disorder have on cognition? Are people with bipolar disorder cognitively impaired? Critically evaluate the literature and, based on research evidence, present a strong argument that justifies your conclusions. Any essays going over the prescribed 1500-word limit will be penalized. You should aim to write clearly and simply, providing a logical and well-structured answer to the essay question. The topics ask you to evaluate the impact of 1) bipolar disorder, 2) borderline personality disorder, or 3) anorexia nervosas on cognition to determine whether people who have the disorder are cognitively impaired. As 1500 words is not enough to offer an in-depth analysis of all cognitive functions, your essay should focus on 2 or 3 cognitive functions (e.g., language and attention; memory and problem solving; facial recognition and social cognition) –– by focusing on 2 or 3 cognitive functions, you can generalize to cognition more broadly and answer the question clearly and confidently. Depth of understanding, clarity of argument and economy of expression will be rewarded. Remember, your job is to provide a clear, evidence-based answer the essay question – do not just summarize the research papers/textbook/lectures/tutorials! (And of course, be very careful to avoid academic misconduct/plagiarism). Make sure your essay is on topic, i.e., that it really speaks to the issue you have chosen as your essay question. It is important to write a coherent argument – the opening paragraphs should tell your reader where the essay is heading, brief pointers along the way should clearly indicate what the evidence implies and how it relates to the essay question, and a concluding paragraph (or two) should make your answer to the question and position on the issue clear. Only include research evidence that is relevant to the topic, and thus builds a compelling answer to the essay question. Evidence of having read (and understood!) at least five original experimental papers is expected for this essay. In addition, you may choose to include information from reviews and meta-analyses to support your interpretations of the original experimental articles, however reviews and meta-analyses are not counted as part of the “five original experimental papers”. Each of the topics includes the details of two suggested starting references – bear in mind that these are only suggestions (citing these particular papers is NOT a marking criterion!). Make sure you base your essay on reliable academic resources (i.e., original journal articles you’ve read. Hint : Wikipedia is NOT a reliable academic resource!).
