Biology-The pacific ocean
The Pacific Ocean has seen troubles, more so than I dare say any other ocean in recent memory. In class we did speak and converse about the disaster in Fukushima Japan. As we learned in our first day of class tap water is the closest thing to a natural neutral Ph for water but we did not put the Ph of our oceans specifically the pacific to task.
Everything is a system with sub systems as we learned the earth is a huge system and the oceans dominate the Earth. When we as humans entered the industrial age and started a wanton unregulated destruction of the oceans, and in some parts of the world humans have almost succeeded. The coasts of South America still suffer from wanton pollution from the coastal countries that do not follow sustainable, responsible practices. Discarding everything from direct sewage to uncleaned unreported oil spills specifically from Venezuelan offshore oil platforms. OSHA and its regulatory arm does not have an effect on other countries some people do not know this, our ships are regulated but when in rome do as the romans if you want the job.
The real topic is Ph and Ph can be effected by many things from acid rain, nuclear fallout, anthropogenic (man made co2) carbon acid to the tune of 22,000,000 tons or 44,000,000 per day. The good news is that the oceans are huge, HUGE, and even after the Fukushima radiation fallout and contamination disaster to the Pacific ocean, it’s resiliency and system are almost back to pre-Fukushima Ph levels
of around 8.1 PH. The long and short is that the levels are down 1/4 from 200 years ago which means if the ocean could recover from a disaster like fukushima there is a chance it can recover from us.
